Traditional therapy has focused on thoughts and emotions, while the current studies suggest that the key to healing trauma lies in our bodies and specifically in the nervous system! In this half-day workshop you will learn the basics of how to use your 6th, 7th, and 8th senses to better tune into your body and your internal threat response system. It turns out that tuning into your inner signals is a big part of learning to recognize and respond to your earliest signs of activation and ultimately developing your capacity to respond to real and perceived danger and then recover.
During the three and 1/2 hours, you will learn more about how your nervous system works to keep us safe, how to communicate with it, and ways to befriend your own system. You will learn some self-regulating tools as well as some co-regulation exercises you may choose to try with a trusted friend after the workshop. All of the in-workshop exercises are optional; each person will be encouraged to do self-care and opt-out of any guided experiences.
**Please note this workshop is open to both regular folks and therapists, but the focus is not on doing Somatic therapy on clients; it's about working with your own nervous system. Terri Delaney, LICSW is an Intermediate Level Somatic Experiencing student and she is excited to share these simple and effective tools with you!
